Hungary is no new market to BYD – the Chinese company has been producing electric buses for the European market in the country for years. BYD has so far left the country out of its electric car plans – until now. In addition, the model range in Finland is being expanded.
To start, BYD is launching three models in Hungary: The Atto 3, Seal and Dolphin can now be ordered in two branches in the capital Budapest. This is a different model trio in Hungary than in most European markets, where, in addition to the Atto 3 compact SUV, the Han EV (sedan) and Tang EV (SUV) luxury class models were also offered at the start. In Hungary, however, BYD is relying purely on its e-platform 3.0, which relies on 800-volt system voltage and LFP cells. BYD also plans to set up a nationwide service network in Hungary.
The D-segment Seal sedan will launch in Hungary with prices starting at 18.1 million forints, the equivalent of 47,165 euros. The Atto 3 is slightly cheaper at just under 14 million forints (36,445 euros). BYD’s cheapest model in Hungary is the Dolphin compact, which starts at around eleven million forints or the equivalent of 28,585 euros.
Including Hungary, BYD now offers its electric cars in 19 European countries. Or to put it another way: since its European debut at the 2022 Paris Motor Show, BYD has preferred 18 countries to Hungary, even though the company has been based in the country for years with its electric bus plant.
“Our deep-rooted experience in Hungary through our established BYD eBus business and the Komárom factory further feeds our excitement,” said Michael Shu, Managing Director of BYD Europe. “We continually strive for delivering sustainable mobility solutions to the passenger car market and dedicated to providing exceptional levels of local sales and aftersales services to customers, together with our dealers, which will create a strong foundation for the BYD brand in Hungary.”
Meanwhile, in Finland, BYD is expanding its model line-up. Following the Atto 3, Tang and Han, which are already sold through partner RSA, the Dolphin and Seal are now available in Finland. However, BYD does not name the prices of the two models in Finland in the announcement.
