The Dutch cabinet has set aside €2.5 billion in support for Ukraine next year, prime minister Mark Rutte told Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday. The money will be spent on military support, recovery work and bringing war criminals to justice, in accordance with the wishes of Ukrainians themselves and on the progress of the war.
‘It is a best guess,’ defence minister Kasja Ollongren said on Friday after ministers reached agreement on the budget.
By allocating the money now, the Netherlands is showing its ‘undiminished solidarity with the people of Ukraine, who can count on Dutch support for as long as necessary,’ she said. Ollongren said last week the Netherlands as given almost €1 billion in military support to Ukraine so far.
